When arriving in the Fort Sam Houston area, the nearest major airport is the San Antonio International Airport which is located about 4 miles from Fort Sam Houston. Taxi service is available from the airport directly to the base. If arriving by car, the base is accessible via I-410, I-35 and US 281. The post is very near the downtown area of San Antonio with its many tourist attractions including the Riverwalk and the Alamo. If military personnel are in need of temporary housing at Fort Sam Houston, Fort Sam Houston maintains a guest facility at George C. Beach Avenue in Building 3625.
